Allen Community College’s women ran into a Seward County-sized buzzsaw Wednesday.
The visiting Saints basketball team forced a whopping 51 Red Devil turnovers — 34 in the first half alone — in a 95-39 victory.
The loss comes in ACC’s Jayhawk Conference opener and drops the Red Devils to 0-3 on the season.
Saint runs were a common theme in the first half.
Allen’s Adji Mbaye scored the game’s first bucket before Seward responded with a 12-0 run, fed mostly by a withering press.
Mbaye scored again for ACC to end the drought, only for the Saints to respond with another 13-point outburst to lead 25-4.
Hallie Reed gave the Red Devils a brief spark with consecutive 3-pointers, but it did little to shift momentum. The score stood at 44-14 at the break.
Allen settled down after intermission, somewhat.
Mbaye scored nine points after the break, and KJ Moore scored all seven of her points in the third and fourth quarters.
Still, the Saints had answers at every turn, leading 69-24 after three quarters.
Mbaye wound up with 13 points and seven rebounds to lead ACC. Addison Towe had six boards.
Sierra Morrow scored 18 and Zhane Thompson 17 for Seward.
Allen returns to action Saturday at Great Bend to take on Barton County in their first road game of the season.
