Silver linings were hard to come by Tuesday for Allen Community College’s softball team.
The Red Devils remain winless on the season after a pair of tough matchups Tuesday against visiting Highland Community College.
Highland put together a 12-1 win in the opener before pounding out 19 hits in the second game and taking advantage of seven Allen errors in a 22-2 romp.
“Our pitching wasn’t there, our defense wasn’t there and our bats weren’t there,” ACC head coach Jamie Amerine said.
The Scotties led 1-0 headed into the third inning of the opener before erupting for four to take control.
Allen’s only run came in the bottom of the third. Bailey Burnett led off with a single before Kayla Bourgeois pounded out a two-out double to cut ACC’s deficit to 5-1.
Highland promptly responded with five in the top of the fourth and two more in the top of the sixth.
Emily England took the loss, giving up seven hits over two innings of work. She walked one and struck out one.
Mackenzi Beck allowed six hits over three innings. She walked two and struck out one.
Bourgeois went 2-for-2 with a double. Jordan Barber rapped out a pair of singles. Adding one single each were Erika King, Callie Beene, Stormie Bush and Burnett.
Highland’s Emma Hill and Emily Clonts combined for seven hits, seven runs and four RBIs.
THE SECOND game began inauspiciously enough.
Allen scored a run in the bottom of the first to tie the proceedings, 1-1.
King led off the frame with a walk. She advanced to second on a grounder and scored on a Highland error.
But while Allen’s bats went silent, Highland’s hit high gear.
