PITTSBURG — The Allen County Special Olympics bocce ball team brought home the second-place silver medal at Pittsburg State University’s Plaster Center on March 25.

The Allen county squad won over an Easter Seals team, 12-4, before falling, 6-5, to New HOpe.

The Allen County squad was able to practice for the event at the Humboldt Sports complex, coach Joy Riebel noted.

That was important because the competition had moved from indoors to the outdoors, Riebel noted, which meant using different balls, ones more suitable for artificial turf.

New Hope took first overall. Easter Seals took third.

Allen County’s Courtland Sager was tapped to lead the Athlete’s Pledge during the opening ceremony as well.
