CHERRYVALE — The Cubs were able to get only one game in on Tuesday night in Cherryvale before the storms forced the conclusion of the second one to be postponed.Even so, Daylon Splane made the most of that one game with a 4-0 victory.
The Cubs’ senior threw a complete game shutout with just three hits allowed and pounded the strike zone all night with 85 percent of his 66 pitches over seven innings being strikes. Splane finished the game with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
“Daylon was terrific on the mound,” Cub coach Mike Miller said. “He was really efficient and went right after their hitters. For him to throw a complete game in that few of pitches and rack up that many strikeouts, it was quite impressive.”
Sophomore Wyatt Seufert led the Cub offense with two hits.
The Cubs were leading the second game 4-0 in the fifth with senior Rayce Hoepker throwing a shutout when the game was postponed due to weather.
