Postseason assignments for the 2020-21 basketball season have been announced.

Iola’s Mustangs and Fillies are in the Class 4A substate, and will compete Feb. 27-March 6 against Fort Scott, Louisburg, Ottawa and Paola for a state basketball berth.

Much like was done during the volleyball season in the fall, the Kansas State High School Activities Association has taken steps to reduce the number of schools at a single venue because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Because of that, the state tournament quarterfinal games will be held March 8-9 on individual campuses before the final four teams advance to the state site for the semifinals and finals.

And unlike years past, the semifinal losers will not play each other for the third-place trophy this season. Instead, both teams will automatically get a plaque, awarding them third place.

The Class 4A State Tournament is March 11-13 in Salina.

HUMBOLDT will serve as the host school for its class 2A Substate Tournament Feb. 26-March 6, with Northeast, Southeast, Erie, Jayhawk-Linn, St. Mary’s Colgan, Pleasanton and Uniontown.

Yates Center, meanwhile, will be in Cottonwood Falls for its 2A substate tourney, along with host Chase County, along with Berean Academy, Herington, Lyndon, Marion, Central Heights and Whitewater-Remington.

The Class 2A state tourney is March 11-13 in Manhattan.

MARMATON Valley and Southern Coffey County are part of the Class 1A-II Substate Tournament running Feb. 25-March 6 in St. Paul. Other schools vying for a state berth are Altoona-Midway, Chetopa, Marais des Cygnes Valley, St. Paul and Waverly. The 1A-II State Tournament is in Great Bend.

CREST will travel to Madison for the Class 1A-I Substate, against Burlingame, Lebo, Madison/Hamilton, Olpe and Cair Paravel Feb. 25-March 6.

The Class 1A-I State Tournament is in Dodge City.
