The Iola High School tennis team’s pursuit of a berth at the state meet came to an end Friday at the regional tournament in Independence.

While facing some of the area’s best players, the Mustangs did not punch a player’s ticket to the state tournament.

Senior Bethany Miller’s run came to an end in the second round of Saturday’s regional with a 6-1, 6-0 loss to junior Sarah Veile of Independence. Further down the bracket, junior Abigail Jerome fell to junior Emma Cook of Fort Scott 8-0.

In doubles action, senior Lily Lohman and sophomore Evie Schooler fell to Coffeyville’s junior Lizzie Cook and senior Danica Davis.
