Titan teams fall to ranked Olpe teams

OLPE — Riding on a long, long home winning streak, Olpe High’s girls turned away a strong challenge by Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans Thursday.

The Lady Titans pushed Kansas Class 2A top-ranked Eagles to the limit. Olpe chalked up its 90th straight home win, 58-54.

Olpe High’s boys, who are ranked third in Class 2A, dispatched the SCCH boys 53-34.

“We got behind by nine early but had a 22-point second quarter led by Shelby Birk hitting three threes and it turned into a really good game,” said Jeff True, Lady Titan head coach.

“You’re never satisfied with a loss but our girls came out of this game with a lot of confidence. Our kids played focused and smart.”

It was 28-27 in Olpe’s favor at intermission. The Lady Titans outscored the Eagles 17-13 in the third quarter to take a 44-41 lead. Olpe won the game on a 17-10 run in the fourth.

Birk led Southern Coffey County with 18 points. Kaitlin Meyer added 10 as Kristin Stephens and Laurie Ohl each had eight points. Sam Jacob scored five, Ashton Gudenkauf had three and Kristen Garland had two points.

Olpe got 17 points from Kendyl McDongald and 13 each from Katelyn Henderson and Kathryn Flott. Janae Haag tossed in 10 points.

The Titan boys stayed with the Eagles in a close first half, trailing 24-17 at the break. Olpe outscored Southern Coffey County 29-17 in the second half.

Travis Bryan and Ben Spencer had 11 points each for the Titans. Aaron Ludolph added six, Michael Stohs had four and Trevor Smith scored two.

Bradely Argrbright scor-ed 18 and Matt Redeker had 16 for Olpe.

Southern Coffey County hosts Marmaton Valley tonight.
