Track season begins at Uniontown Invite

A few area athletes put the Tri-Valley League and the Three Rivers League on notice after medaling at Tuesday's Uniontown Invitational.

UNIONTOWN — Track season is underway as multiple athletes made their 2026 debut at Tuesday’s Uniontown Invitational.

The Humboldt Cubs and Lady Cubs brought home the most hardware. The Cubs finished second as a team while the Lady Cubs came in fifth.

In team events, the Cubs took third in the 4×100 relay in 56.34 seconds, followed by Marmaton Valley in 1:00.23 for fifth place.  

In girls’ action, MVHS took third in the 4×100 in 1:07 while Crest was just over a second behind for fourth place in 1:08.64. 

The Lady Cubs took third in the 4×800 relay in 13:14. 

Wrapping up the evening, the Cubs took third in the 4×400 relay with a 3:59 benchmark while the Lady Cubs took fourth in 5:25.

In distance events, Humboldt freshman Aspen Wimsett debuted with a few fireworks after taking second in the 3200 in 14:29. 

Crest senior Aubrey Allen was close behind with a 14:42 finish for third and Marmaton Valley freshman Tayleigh Foreman finished fifth in 15:08. 

In the 1600, Crest sophomore Grady Allen posted a solid debut for third place with a 5:17.86 run.

Humboldt junior Jack Works took third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.83; followed by Yates Center sophomore Marcus Cummings in fourth 3 seconds later, then Crest sophomore Grady Allen, 2 seconds later. 

Cummings took first in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.68 seconds, followed by HHS junior Thatcher Mueller taking third in 20.90. 

Cummings also took second in the 300-hurdles, followed by HHS junior Thatcher Mueller in third place.

In the sprints, Marmaton Valley junior Cooper Scharff won the 100-meter dash in 11.71 seconds, followed by teammate Todd Stevenson in fourth place in 11.93. 

Crest junior Hannah Schmidt took second in the 100-meter dash. 

In the 400, Humboldt freshman Breckin Guenther took third. 

In field events, Stevenson showed early promise with first place in the triple jump with a 37.8-feet leap, second in the long jump and fifth in the high jump.
