Senior Bryce Isaac and junior Joe Kline are no strangers to the top of the podium in their Humboldt track and field careers.
On Friday, the duo each added two more first-place finishes to each of their counts in Humboldt’s events at Central Heights High School.
Isaac took first in both the long jump and triple jump, while finishing second in the 100.
Kline was first in the 800 and 1600.
Sophomore Colin Gillespie rounded out the first-place finishers on the boys’ side as he tied for first in the high jump.
Freshman Kaylie Johnson was the top performer on the girls’ side as she finished second in the 400 and third in the long jump.
Cub coach Eric Carlson was very happy with the results for his team considering when he wants his athletes to peak.
“I try not to put too much pressure on our kids during the first few meets,” Carlson said. “They hear me repeat that these meets are just practice.
“The meets we really care about are the last three with league, regionals and state.”
He was happy with the way that both his boys and girls competed.
“Both the boys and the girls exceeded my reasonable expectations as a team and individually,” Carlson said. “On a very cold, windy, not-fun-to compete-in day, they did an awesome job.”
