NEODESHA — Yates Center High’s Paul Stockebrand and Dylan Bauman finished in the top 10 and medaled at Tuesday’s Neodesha High Invitational golf tournament.
Stockebrand shot an 82 for fifth place and Bauman was one stroke back at 83, finishing seventh. Nick Schemper carded a 98 and Jaden Knoblock had a 129.
Yates Center’s team score was 392, which was ninth out of 10 teams.
“Paul and Dylan both played well and the scorecard playoffs went our way for both of their medals,” said Kevin Barnes, YCHS golf coach. “I’m very excited to see Nick breaking 100.
“We are getting down to the critical time of the year where we need a lower fourth-man score if we are to be competitive at regionals and qualify for the state tournament.”
On Monday, Schemper, Knoblock, Mason Hartwig and Richie Mentzer competed in the Burlington High JV Scramble. Their score was 48, finishing 12th and Olpe was first with a 37.
Barnes said no one player dominated making the best shots but “our biggest problem was all four would make a bad shot and we would have to play the next shot from one of those. The bright side was two or three of them would make a good shot from the same location.”
