“Hectic” was the word of the day Saturday for Iola High’s volleyball squads.
The three Fillies teams played a combined 14 matches in three tournaments at three different locations.
Iola’s varsity struggled at Pittsburg, going 0-5 on the day. Scores and statistics were unavailable by press time.
The IHS junior varsity, meanwhile, went 1-3 at a tournament in Fort Scott.
The Fillies defeated Labette County, 25-23, 20-25, 15-9, and dropped matches to Chanute, 25-16, 25-12; to Parsons, 25-21, 11-25, 15-13; and to Jayhawk-Linn, 25-16, 25-8.
Individual statistics were unavailable at press time.
The Iola freshmen hosted a tournament in the IHS gymnasium, going 2-2-1 overall and taking third place.
The ninth-graders fell to Central Heights (blue) 25-22, 25-17, and split with Marmaton Valley, losing the first game, 25-8, and winning the second, 26-24. Iola thumped Central Heights (gold), 25-10, 25-17, and fell to Paola, 25-18, 25-20.
Iola took on Marmaton Valley for a second time in the third-place match, winning 25-22, 25-18.
Sydney Wade led the freshmen in assists, head coach Jeff Fehr said. Toni Macha and Riley Murry led the team in kills, while Alexis Heslop and Jadyn Sigg were the top servers. Brooklyn Storrer had the most digs.
