Wildcat baseball team gets rolled by Raiders

MORAN — Frontenac High’s Raiders rolled over Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats Thursday on the Cats’ diamond.
“We played bad both games. There really is no other way to put it,” said Derek Scharff, Marmaton Valley head coach after his team lost 16-0 in five innings and 18-0 in three innings Thursday.
“All phases of the game — pitching, fielding, hitting — were bad for us.”
Scharff said he hoped the Wildcats bounced back to play well against visiting Yates Center on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats are 0-6 on the season.
Marmaton Valley had two hits in the first game Thursday. Tanner Lewis and Landon Hammond each had a single. Marmaton Valley’s defense made eight errors.
Taylor Lhuillier pitched 11⁄3 innings, surrendered eight runs on two hits, three walks and one hit batter. Derrick Carr threw 32⁄3 innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits, five walks and one hit batter. He struck out two.
Frontenac scored seven runs in the first inning of the first game. The Raiders went up 4-0 in the first inning of second game and added eight runs in the second and six more in the third for a run-rule win.
Marmaton Valley used five pitchers starting with Nathan Whitcomb. Jared Kale, Ryan Smith, Hammond and Gage Stewart each took a turn on the mound. The Wildcats issued 10 walks and gave up 12 hits.
Lewis, Ethan Ericson and Stewart each had a base hit. Marmaton Valley committed six errors in the field.
