After seeming the team to beat in the past few weeks, the Yates Center High School Wildcats made an earlier than expected exit at their regional tournament Monday.

The Yates Center Wildcats season came to a sudden end after finishing third in Monday’s regional tournament quad.

The Wildcats opened the tournament with a 25-22, 25-18 loss to the Southeast Lancers, then rebounded with a 25-16, 25-14 victory over Douglas before a 25-17, 25-11 loss to St. Mary’s Colgan prevented them from moving on to the sub-state tournament.

With the loss, the Wildcats end the season 21-15 overall and fourth in the Three Rivers League. Yates Center had three seniors graduating this spring, so rebuilding in 2026 will not be an issue. However, they will have significant holes to fill with the departure of likely All-TRL senior outside hitter Wylee Shaffer, middle hitter Kinley Morrison and setter Madison Hall.
