COLONY — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s football wrapped up a successful 2023 campaign by thumping Crest Middle School, 66-22.

“We were the more physical team up front offensively,” Wildcat head coach Dan Uhlrich said. “Defensively, they hit us on a couple passes and got us on an onside kick returned for a touchdown. They didn’t do much to us on the ground. I thought we hit well.”

Marmaton Valley had control from the outset, leading 30-8 at the break.

The Wildcats end with a 6-1 record.

“This eighth-grade class did a great job of showing leadership skills,” Uhlrich said. “They had no grade issues, listened to gameplans weekly with intent, and came ready to practice every day with passion. They enjoy one another and they will be greatly missed.  It is so nice as a coach when all you have to worry about is football related matters.

“The seventh-grade class will have big shoes to fill in leadership roles next year.  They’ve been shown a good example. “
