Wildcats fall in close calls

The Marmaton Valley Wildcats fell in a pair of close games over the weekend.

YATES CENTER — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s volleyball team came up short in some hard-fought matches Saturday.

The Wildcats, competing in the Yates Center Invitational, went 0-4 on the day.

The first and last matches of the day, against Galesburg-Erie and then Southern Coffey County, went down to the wire.

Galesburg Erie went a little extra in defeating Marmaton Valley, 28-26 and then 25-20, for the 2-0 win.

Marmaton Valley had strong service games from Kenna Boone, Layten Blevins, Kinsley Vance and Kloie Snavely.

Next was a 25-17 and 25-11 loss to Central Heights and a 25-12 and 25-14 loss to Jayhawk-Linn.

The Wildcats picked up their first set win of the day against Southern Coffey County, winning 25-22. But the Lady Titans rebounded with a 25-17 win in the second set, and then eked out a 17-15 win in the tie-breaker.

Individual stats against SCC were unavailable.

Marmaton Valley traveled to Southeast of Cherokee Monday. Results were unavailable by press time.
