PLEASANTON — An old bugaboo — a slow start — reared its head again Thursday for Yates Center High.

Host Pleasanton scored the game’s first 10 points and never looked back, outscoring Yates Center 61-21.

The contest originally was scheduled for Friday, but was bumped up a day to avoid this weekend’s wintry weather.

The Blu-Jays led 23-1 and 34-5 in the first half before cruising into intermission with a 41-7 cushion.

Freshman Evan McVey paced the Wildcats with six points. Kaiden Rutherford scored four, Devereaux Sarchet had three, and Taylor Camacho, Jeremiah Jones, Coltan Crumrine and Tristan Ballin all had two.

Yates Center, which remains winless, takes on Anderson County at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Iola Elementary School in the first round of the War on 54 midseason tournament. The Wildcats will follow on Thursday against either Humboldt or Crest.
