OSWEGO — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats were smothered by Oswego High Indian’s defense early Tuesday night.
The Wildcats scored just one point in the first quarter and trailed 23-11 at halftime. Oswego powered to a 49-30 win over the visiting Wildcats.
Oswego outscored Marmaton Valley 24-8 in the third quarter. The Indians were 8 of 11 from the free-throw line in that period.
Cole Becker scored seven points to lead the Wildcats. Landon Hammond added six.
It was the third time the Wildcats tangled with the Indians this season, and twice within a week. Oswego beat Marmaton Valley in the first round of last week’s Lancer Classic at Cherokee.
But Tuesday’s meeting was for Three Rivers League play. The Wildcats fell to 0-2 in league action and 2-9 overall.
Kyle Wimp poured in 16 points for Oswego. Hunter Cline had 14. The Indians improved to 1-0 in league and 10-2 overall.
The Wildcats host Pleasanton Friday at Moran.
