MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Jimmy Frye didn’t give his infielders much work Tuesday evening.
The Wildcat pitcher shut out visiting Chetopa on one hit over four innings, with seven strikeouts.
Cole Becker pitched nearly as well in the second game, but this time allowed a few infielders to get in some work.
The doubleheader sweep — 15-0 and 15-2 — puts Marmaton Valley back on the winning track following a pair of losses last week to powerful Central Heights.
“We did a good job of making them throw strikes. We got a lot of people on base and drove in a lot of runs,” Wildcat head coach Derek Scharff said.
The fielding wasn’t as crisp in the second game.
“We didn’t do a good job making a few routine plays,” Scharff said. “We need to clean up the fielding and help out our pitchers. Hopefully, in the next couple of weeks we will get a chance to practice more.”
In the opener, Becker went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBIs. Levi Ramsey had two singles and two RBIs, while Austin Deer rapped three singles with two runs and two RBIs. Sage Hall had three walks and three runs. Frye had a single, two walks, three runs and two RBIs. Ryan Smith had a single in his only official at bat with two walks and two runs. Keagan Boyd had a single, two walks, a run and RBI. Chris Bowman had a walk and run. Gage Adams singled to go with two walks, two runs and an RBI.
Marmaton Valley led 3-0 after one inning and 10-0 after two. The game ended when the Wildcats pushed the margin to 15 in the fourth inning.
The fun continued in the second game.
Marmaton Valley led 3-0 after one, 8-0 after two and 10-3 after three. A five-run fourth was the final salvo for the Wildcats.
Every Wildcat starter had a hit.
Hall went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Frye also went 3-for-4 while pounding out two doubles with three runs and three RBIs. Becker had a single, three walks, four runs and three RBIs. Smith had two singles, a triple, a run and two RBIs. Boyd went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Bowman had a single, Ramsey had a single, a walk and a run. Gage Adams had a double, walk, run and RBI. Jake Kress went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Marmaton Valley will host Oswego Thursday, weather permitting.
