YATES CENTER — A dominating second quarter propelled Marmaton Valley High’s boys to victory Thursday.
The Wildcats’ Tyler Lord scored seven of his game-high 15 points in the second period as Marmaton Valley turned a 9-7 lead over Oswego into a 22-9 advantage by halftime.
The run continued in the second half as the Wildcats secured a 49-36 win in the second round of the Yates Center Midseason Tournament.
The round-robin tournament was to wrap up Friday against St. Paul, although those results were unavailable by press time.
Ethan Lawson added 14 points for the Wildcats, who stretched their lead to 39-20 by the end of the third quarter.
Garrett Morrison added nine.
Wyatt McClure scored nine to lead Oswego.
IN GIRLS play, Oswego erupted with a 20-point third quarter to pull away in a 46-14 win over Marmaton Valley.
Reagan Marshall scored six to lead the Wildcats.
Kodi Trimble scored 13 and Ashton Schultz had 11 for the Indians.
MARMATON VALLEY will return to Yates Center on Tuesday to resume regular season play, followed by games at Southeast-Cherokee next Friday.
