CHEROKEE — Host Southeast High’s defense proved to be a tough nut to crack for Marmaton Valley Friday.
The host Lancers zipped out of the gate to take a 16-4 lead after one quarter, and never looked back.
Southeast stretched its lead to 34-11 at halftime and 49-21 after three quarters of a 55-27 victory.
The loss drops Marmaton Valley to 7-9 on the season with home games this week against Erie on Tuesday and St. Paul on Friday.
Thomas Allee scored all six of his points in the fourth quarter to lead Marmaton Valley in scoring. Todd Stevenson, Cooper Scharff, Tyler Lord and Ethan Lawson added four apiece.
Zayne Gabern, Tyler Warner and Garrett Burger scored 12 apiece for Southeast.
Marmaton Valley prevailed, 55-34, in a junior varsity matchup. Lawson scored 13, and Allee had 12 for the Wildcat JV, followed by Lane Lord and Kris McVey with nine apiece and Collin Ard, Kaden McVey and Xander Finch each with four.
IN GIRLS play, Southeast’s Kendyl Renn poured in 22, including four 3-pointers, as Southeast took home a 38-13 win over the Wildcats.
Emma Louk scored nine, while Sophia Heim and Addie Pritchard had two apiece for the Wildcats (2-14).
In a statistical oddity, neither team hit a free throw in the contest. Marmaton Valley went 0-2 from the line, while Southeast didn’t even attempt a charity.
