YATES CENTER — The Yates Center Wildcats continue climbing the Three Rivers League standings after sweeping Southern Coffey County and Altoona-Midway Tuesday.
The Wildcats (15-6, 8-0) nearly held their opponents to single digits in all four sets of Monday’s triangular apart from a late scoring run by the Southern Coffey County Titans.
The Wildcats opened the evening with a 25-7, 25-8 sweep of the Altoona-Midway Jets (0-13, 0-10). Senior outside hitter Wylee Shaffer picked up a team-leading four kills, followed by junior outside hitter Cayten Cummings and freshman middle hitter Loryn Kress with two each. 
Although junior setter Mylin Tidd had a team-leading five aces, freshman setter Trystyn Steele and junior outside hitter had breakout performances with four aces each, followed by senior setter Madison Hall and junior defensive specialist Linde Hodges with two each.
Southern Coffey County put up a bit more of a fight with the same. Yates Center took a two-game sweep, 25-12 and 25-9. Cummings had a team-leading seven kills, followed by Shaffer with six and senior outside hitter Kinley Morrison with two.
Cummings also had a team-leading seven aces, followed again by Morrison with two each. Defensively, Tidd had a team-leading seven digs, followed by Shaffer with six, then Morrison and Cummings with three each.
The results of the Altoona-Midway and Southern Coffey County contest were not reported by press time.
Yates Center returns to the hardwood Saturday for a tournament at West Franklin High School, then travels to Humboldt for a Monday triangular.
Southern Coffey County heads to Whitewater for the Remington Invitational Saturday. They will host a triangular against Marmaton Valley and Central Heights Tuesday.
