FORT SCOTT — Yates Center High’s golfers took to the links Monday, with three top-15 finishes at the Uniontown Invitational Tournament.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was Marlana Buchanan, who shot a 110 to take eighth place. MaKayla Jones was two strokes behind in 12th at 113. Becky Wendland was one place behind at 13th at 113. Braeden Burright finished 29th with a 140. Jaylie Weseloh, in her first ever varsity competition, shot a 170 for 33rd.
Reagan Boone of Eureka shot a 95 to take first place individually. Eureka also had the low team score of 411. Yates Center’s 475 was good for sixth.
“Marlana shot a 59 on the front nine and 51 on the back to win her first medal ever,” Yates Center golf coach Kevin Barnes said. “The back nine tees were farther than the front nine, so she played really well.
Jones lost a tie-breaker for 12th.
“The girls are getting used to this course,” Barnes said. “Most have played it two or three times this year already, which is good since this is where we go for our regional tournament.”
