The Yates Center Wildcats ended their 2025 season on a high note after blowing out the Centre Raiders 62-16 Thursday.
The Wildcats ended with multiple wins for the first time since 2021.
Sophomore quarterback Gavin Busteed put Yates Center on the scoreboard early with a 3-yard burst into the end zone. Busteed returned to the promised land twice more on a 72-yard run and after finding sophomore running back Ben Cook on a 35-yard pass.
Cook found his footing early, giving the Wildcats a 14-0 lead on a 30-yard TD run, then opened the second quarter with a 70-yard kick return for a touchdown. He also shined on defense with a 46-yard strip fumble returned for a TD. Sophomore running back Marcus Cummings also got into the action with a pair of TDs. The first came late in the second half a 32-yard run, which he followed up moments later with another TD run — this time from 17 yards out.
With the win, the Wildcats snapped a five-game losing streak dating back to their 30-28 victory over St. Paul.
