YATES CENTER — Neither team had a Tri-Valley League win yet this season. Both teams had just one win overall this year.
Yates Center High’s Wildcats pushed past visiting Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs 48-8 Friday night. Yates Center was up 32-8 at halftime.
“We played good defense and were aggressive on offense tonight,” said Abbie Collins, YCHS girls’ head coach.
Yates Center improved to 1-4 in TVL play and 2-5 overall. Humboldt dropped to 0-4 in league and 1-6 overall.
“We did a good job breaking their press. We just struggle to score,” said Jeff Wilkerson, Lady Cub head coach. “We’re young and learning.”
Autumn Douglas had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Yates Center. Drew Spencer added 12 points and five steals. Emily Baker handed out five assists.
Sheri Middleton scored four points for Humboldt.
Yates Center won the junior varsity game 36-24 led by Maddy Galemore with eight. Whitney Strack scored nine for Humboldt.
Yates Center hosts Waverly Tuesday while Humboldt is idle.
