HERINGTON — Yates Center High had multiple athletes make it to the Class 2A State Track Meet with strong showings at their regional on Thursday.
Kal Hamm made it to state in three different events. In the 110-meter hurdles, Hamm finished in 15.48 seconds. That was the second fastest qualifying time, second to Berean Academy’s David Ladwig, who finished in 14.97 seconds. Hamm also qualified for the 300m hurdles with a 41.83 mark. That was the sixth best qualifying time. Hamm leaped over 6 feet, 4 inches to qualify for the high jump. That mark was second to the 6’6” posted by Plainville’s Kolt Newell.
Brett Holloway made it to state in the 3200m run. He finished in 10:41.36 for the 11th fastest qualifying time. Holloway’s leap of 41’8” was good enough to qualify for the triple jump. That was the seventh farthest mark.
Michael Brunner qualified in the 800m run with a 2:08.56 mark. It was the 14th best qualifying time.
Levi Cooper will be representing Yates Center in the 200m dash. His time of 23.81 seconds is the 11th fastest of the qualifiers. Only .66 seconds separates him from the fastest time.
MaKayla Jones qualified for the discus and shot put. Her discus toss of 104’ is the 11th farthest toss of all qualifiers. In the shot put, she heaved it 34’3” for the 11th best qualifying mark.
The boys 4x800m relay team finished in 8:39.45 to take the seventh fastest qualifying time.
The Class 2A State Track Meet takes place in Wichita on Friday and Saturday.
