Local officers and Kansas ABC agents raided an alleged moonshining and bootlegging operation here last night, the first to be uncovered here in many years. Arrested was Turner Ward, 74, at his home, 412 W. Martin, where officers said they found a 10-gallon jar of corn mash cooking behind the stove, a crude still and approximately a gallon of potent corn whiskey. Sheriff Ray Emmons said two agents from the state Alcohol Beverage Control board had been watching Ward for several days and recently purchased two half pints of whiskey from him. Robert Talkington, county attorney, said Ward would be charged with the illegal manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages.
