Dale Thiele’s sermon came from 1 Thessalonians 5:1, “Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.” Thiele told the story of Zacharias the Jew who collected taxes for Romans. He was hated because he worked for the Romans.
Zacharias was a small man so as Jesus was entering town, he climbed up a tree so he could see. Jesus passed and looked up in the tree and called Zacharias by name and told him he would have dinner with him. This surprised everyone, but as we know Jesus accepted everyone.
It’s easier to see others’ faults rather than seeing oneself. Grumbling and complaining take away from our blessings. Find people who need help or blessings — even small gestures like a meal, gas money or someone to listen.
Upcoming events at the church include Palm Sunday on March 29. A Maundy Thursday communion service will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 2, at the church and all are welcome to attend. Easter Sunday is April 5. Planning has begun on a fish fry for members and their extended families on June 6, and more information will be posted.
