CHANUTE — Two years after her death, 15-year-old Carlie Almond is being memorialized by a book, “The Carlie Challenge.”
The book, published by her family — parents Brad and Amy Almond and Carlie’s brother, Brad — features a series of social media posts Carlie wrote in the month prior to her death on Dec. 31, 2015, due to a pulmonary embolism.
The Almonds worked with friends from the community to assemble the book, which was published by Amazon and will be released Saturday. The book also will include daily challenges, encouraging readers to find their own moments of gratitude, as well as photos of Carlie and comments from her friends, according to a family press release.
“This book has been compiled with so many words from friends and family, prayers, and love, but ultimately Carlie wrote this book,” Amy Almond said. “Her words are with us today and will continue to challenge our world to be selfless and have an attitude of gratitude.
The Almonds have established the Carlie Almond Memorial Fund, which provides scholarships to Chanute High School seniors. This year would have been Carlie’s senior year at CHS.
“The Carlie Challenge” will be distributed to various youth organizations across the midwest. A booth will be set up Saturday at Chanute’s annual Artist Alley celebration.
The book will also be sold at Amy Almond’s salon, Shear Class, 2451 W. Main St. in Chanute. Additional information can be found at www.thecarliechallenge.com.
