An unfortunate schedule conflict may leave a few unsightly messes for visitors to Iola this weekend.
City Council member Nancy Ford noted Iola’s annual Buster Keaton Celebration is expected to bring in hundreds of out-of-towners to Iola Friday and Saturday.
Meanwhile, more than 180 residents have signed up for Iola’s Cleanup Week effort starting Monday.
Ford assumes more than a few of those residents already have prepared for cleanup week by situating piles of junk, limbs and other debris in front of their houses..
“So we’ll have hundreds of visitors to town at the same time 180 residents have piles of junk at the curbside for Cleanup Week,” Ford said.
Ford acknowledged it’s probably too late to delay the upcoming Cleanup Week activities, but suggested city planners check their calendars before scheduling similar activities in future years.
