HUMBOLDT — Mud flew as 11 cars crashed and banged at Saturday’s Allen County Fair Demolition Derby at Humboldt Speedway.
Most of the cars come out only for this event, said driver Mark Scott of the LaHarpe Rural Fire Department, who noted the LRFD had brought a few cars out for the fun.
By the end of the evening, vehicles had been smashed into concrete barriers, wheels were akimbo and engines spewed out clouds of white smoke. One even spouted flames from its towering exhaust pipes.
Coy Chisom, of Erie, won the designation of having the night’s hardest hit car. Jeff Bartholomew, of Erie, placed first over all, winning a $1,000 pot with his car “The Drunk Skunk.” Travis Berry of Parsons came in second and Mac Cole of Erie was third.
