Noon Thursday is the deadline to file as a candidate for the Allen County Commission First District position. That is the only local elective post that will be filled in the Nov. 2 general election.
Dick Works, a Humboldt Republican completing his fifth four-year term, has filed for re-election.
The district contains the townships of Cottage Grove, Elsmore, Humboldt, Logan, Marmaton and Salem, as well as the cities of Humboldt, Moran, Elsmore and Savonburg.
County commissioners are paid $17,169.12 a year, are eligible for county health insurance and are enrolled in the Kansas Public Employees Retirement system.
If two or more candidates of the same political affiliation file, the number will be pared to one in the Aug. 3 primary.
Thursday noon also is the deadline to file for seats in the Legislature and for statewide offices.
