The next Iola Reads project is Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.”

The Iola Public Library will offer a free showing of “Pride and Prejudice” Friday evening, as part of the ongoing Iola Reads celebration of the book of the same name.

The 6:30 p.m. movie will be shown in the library meeting room.

The popular 2005 film adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic tale of marriage, morality and misconceptions stars Keira Knightley, who garnered an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her portrayal of the headstrong Elizabeth Bennet.

The Iola Reads celebration continues at 7 p.m. March 7 with a celebration of Austen’s 250th birthday, with a Regency Rave Dance Party at the John Silas Bass North Community Building.

Miss Chelsea’s Dance Academy members will perform an assortment of dance routines before the dance floor is opened to everyone.

Birthday cake will be served for Austen, who was born Dec. 16, 1775.

Free copies of “Pride and Prejudice” remain available at the Library and other participating businesses throughout Iola.

The Iola Reads project is a collaboration between USD 257, the library and the Bowlus Fine Arts Center, with funding coming from the Sleeper Family Trust.
