A Recency Rave Dance party will run from 7 to 8 :30 p.m. Saturday at the John Silas Bass North Community Building.

The dance party is in honor of author Jane Austen’s 250th birthday.

Austen penned “Pride and Prejudice,” this year’s Iola Reads selection.

A Regency dance refers to the social dances popular around 1820, otherwise known as the Regency Era.

The dances are often considered the forerunners to square dances, with members gathered in lines or in pairs, often following lively melodies.

Miss Chelsea’s Dance Academy members will be on hand in Regency Era costumes to demonstrate how such dances unfold, before th floor is opened to all.

Birthday cake and other refreshments will be served in honor of Austen, who was born Dec. 16, 1775.
