Kaden Macha’s found just as much success on the football field, basketball court or golf course as in the classroom at Iola High School.
The avid golfer will be calling Warrensburg, Mo., his home for the next four years. Macha will play golf for Central Missouri State University.
While at Iola, Macha has made many memories on all fields of play — depending on the season. For basketball, it was a state tournament appearance during his junior season. On the gridiron, it was a 40-20 loss to very good Coffeyville team as a sophomore.
“I’m going to miss football and basketball because I’ll probably never get to play them again,” Macha said. “Especially with the same kids that I’ve played with my whole life.”
Also as a sophomore, Macha won the Class 4A State Golf Tournament as an individual. This season, he’s won two golf tournaments and the team has a chance at the state title.
At Central Missouri, Macha is happy about being able to continue playing golf.
“I’m excited about playing on a different team,” Macha said. “I’m going to miss this team, but I think it will be good for me. I’ll have better practice facilities and a different coach.”
Although he will now focus on one sport, he doesn’t know what he wants to major in yet. He said that he is looking at business like his dad, Bob, but will wait to make a decision.
Although not comfortable talking about himself, Macha was captain for both the basketball and football teams during his senior year. He played both sports with the same energy, whether diving into the endzone or after a loose ball on the court.
That will to win also transferred over to the classroom. Macha is one of 10 valedictorians in this year’s graduating class.
The National Honor Society student is proud that he was able to put up good grades at the same time as padding his statistics.
“I’m proud of it because you have to work really hard to make all ‘A’s’ all four years,” Macha said. “Hopefully I don’t blow it here at the end of the school year.”
