Kenneth Apley, who escaped from the Woodson County Jail in Yates Center Wednesday, was apprehended at the west edge of Iola late that afternoon.
Apley was nabbed by Roy Smith, an Allen County master deputy, and Iola police Lt. Steve Womack.
Apley, jailed in Woodson County on a domestic violence warrant from Indiana, tried to avoid arrest by giving a false identity, said Sheriff Tom Williams, but the two officers applied known identification characteristics to determine the man was Apley.
He was returned to jail in Yates Center.
