Jerry G. Hughes, 55, Waverly, died Wednesday morning following a traffic accident just south of Iola.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Hughes was southbound on U.S. 169, about one-quarter mile south of Iola, when his vehicle left the highway for an unknown reason, drove through two fences and two fields and eventually struck a tree.
He was taken to Allen County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Hughes was not wearing a seat belt, according to KHP.
