Ralph William “Bill” Blattner, 95, formerly of Humboldt, died Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo.
He was born on Feb. 6, 1916, in Fowler, to Jacob and Mabel (Watkins) Blattner. He attended school in Fowler and graduated from Fort Hays State College in 1939 with a degree in business administration and economics.
He taught in Barnard where he met his wife, Julia Hamm. They were married on June 1, 1941, at the Humboldt United Methodist Church.
He was a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1941 to 1945, serving in the South Pacific and Casablanca, Africa. 
After the war, he went to work for Monarch Cement Company in Humboldt, where he was chief accountant for 34 years.
He was active in the community, Humboldt Lions Club, Allen County Hospital board, Humboldt United Methodist Church and was treasurer for USD 258 for 39 years.
He is survived by his wife; daughters, Jan Campbell and her husband, Roland, Frontenac, and Margaret Cinotto and her husband, Gary, Olathe; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lewis, an infant brother, and a grandson, Brian Luedke.
Cremation has taken place.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Humboldt United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. today at the church.
