Donald E. Jones, 81, Gas, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2016, at Olathe Hospice House.
Don was born May 8, 1935, in LaHarpe, the son of Elmer and Fern (Searcy) Jones. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Moran and graduated from Moran High School. On June 8, 1958, Don married Sharon Lavon Leslie and they made their home in Gas most of their married lives. He had served as mayor of Gas City and was a member of the Iola Elks. Sharon preceded him in death July 6, 2008.
Don has worked as a truck driver for Model Wholesale, a salesman for Arnholz Coffee out of Wichita, and a salesman for Merchant’s Supply, from which he retired. He always farmed and raised cattle.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Davis, Lansing; two granddaughters, Valecia Kanak, Lansing, and Kori Davis, Marysville, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Aubree Kanak; a brother, Walter Jones, LaHarpe, and a sister, Betty Gillham, Fort Scott.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, daughter LaDona Leigh Jones, son-in-law Ronald Davis, brother Howard “Casey” Jones and an infant brother.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m Monday at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Iola, with visitation beginning an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
Memorials are suggested to Olathe Hospice House and may be left with the funeral home.
