Allen County Community College’s cheer squad is the 2010 American Cheer Power Open Co-Ed national champion.
The Red Devil squad competed in the 2010 American Cheer Power Nationals March 27-28 in Columbus, Ohio at the Columbus Convention Center.
ACCC cheer coach Mindy Covey said it was the first cheer competition that an ACCC squad has attended since 2000.
It is the first national championship of this de-cade.
“The team was extremely nervous on Saturday but did extremely well on Sunday,” Covey said. “I’m really happy with the way the team did.
“When they annoucned us as the national champs, we knew all that hard work had paid off.”
Covey said no one on the 2009-2010 Allen County squad had competed in a national competition. She said in cheer, members have to rely on the team so much to make sure things go well.
“And our young people did just that in their performance,” she said.
