Allen mistakes add up in 6-3 loss

With just a pair of games left on the schedule, the Allen Red Devil soccer team has little room for error if they want to make the postseason tournament.

The Allen Red Devils hope to bounce back from a calamitous loss after compounding errors allowed Coffeyville to walk away with a 6-3 victory Tuesday.

After bouncing back from a lengthy losing streak with their first win streak of 2025 last week, the Red Devils received an unexpected trip back to reality with Tuesday’s loss.

“Today was a day we want to forget about,” Allen coach Tamesgn Tezera said. “We like to learn from our losses, but also put them in our rear view. There are things we could have done a whole lot better.”

Allen jumped out to an early lead with a goal from sophomore defender Jeohvah Djimtotinine off a pass from sophomore midfielder Saviola Blake.

Five minutes later, sophomore defender Nelson Zerhoch found the back of the net on another Blake assist. Then 18 minutes into the second period, Blake found the back of the net himself on a penalty shot.

Where Allen fell short on its shots, Coffeyville did not and walked away with a three-goal margin despite having the same number of attempts on goal.

“We came into the game knowing it would not play a part in determining our playoff picture,” Tezera said. “We took our foot off of the gas. Coffeyville came here with something to prove and wanted it more than us. They scored too many silly goals.”

With the loss, the Red Devils fall to 5-6-2 overall. If the loss was not bad enough, the Red Devils will also be without sophomore defender Gonzalo Lopez, who received a red card following a fracas in the second period and will receive a mandatory one-game suspension.

The Red Devils hope to improve their 1-4-1 standing in the Jayhawk Conference over the next two weeks with a pair of games scheduled against conference foe Pratt Community College (3-6-2, 0-5) Saturday.

Allen also has an Oct. 25 senior night contest scheduled.

Kickoff for this Saturday’s game is at 4 p.m.
