The Allen Community College Red Devils hope to rebound from a pair of losses at the Midwest Classic while on the road Saturday for State Fair Community College’s Alumni Weekend.

The Red Devils split four contests over the weekend.

They opened with a pair of wins Friday, 22-4, 4-3, over Morton College and Northeast Community College, but lost against Des Moines Community College,10-0, and Southeastern Community, 10-4, Saturday.

The Red Devils benefited from strong pitching in their opener against Morton College. Freshman pitcher Addie Keys pitched a complete game with eight strikeouts over five innings while allowing three hits and one earned run. Freshman shortstop Taylor Damme had a team-leading four RBIs, including two home runs. Keys posted three RBIs while hitting in 2 of 3 at-bats.

In the second game of Friday’s showcase, Allen edged Northeast 4-3 with a pair of RBIs from Keys and sophomore first baseman Kalyse Abernathy. Iola signee Harper Desmarteau had a sacrifice fly in the winning effort. Freshman Andrea Ruby picked up the win in a complete-game effort with five strikeouts over seven innings while allowing three runs, three hits and one walk.

The Red Devils’ momentum slumped against Des Moines Saturday in a 10-0 loss. Keys took the loss with a pair of strikeouts and allowed eight earned runs and two home runs.

Allen experienced an offensive uptick in the second game against Southeastern. Sophomore catcher Makayla Hirschmann and designated hitter Taryn Billings registered Allen’s only RBIs of the contest. Ruby took the loss despite tallying a trio of strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

Following this weekend’s action, the Red Devils have a record of 4-10. However, only their Jayhawk Conference record matters in the long run and that season doesn’t begin until Allen hosts Fort Scott March 28.
