Area teams learn postseason foes

The 1A substate brackets are out as the postseason begins next week for Crest, Marmaton Valley and Southern Coffey County.

The Kansas State High School Activities Association released a portion of the upcoming sub-state tournament brackets with games getting underway Monday.

The fifth-seed Crest (17-5) Lancers will host South Haven (2-20) Monday in the Madison sub-state tournament. If they win, they advance to Norwich (18-4). The third-seed Lady Lancers (17-5) will have a bye in the opening round of the Madison sub-state and host the winner of the Norwich (14-8) vs. Pleasanton (8-13) contest on March 2.

The Marmaton Valley boys enter the sub-state tournament as the fourth seed and receive a first-round bye. They will host the winner of Central Christian (9-12) vs. Chetopa (0-20), Saturday, Feb. 28. The Marmaton Valley girls (3-19) will host Peabody-Burns (1-17) Tuesday. If they advance, they’ll face No. 1 seed Central Christian (20-2) Monday, March 2.

The Southern Coffey County boys (2-20) come into the contest as the 11th seed in the Hartford substate tournament, and face sixth-seed Peabody-Burns (6-12) on the road Tuesday. If they advance, they’ll play Elyria Christian (10-12) Saturday, Feb. 28. The tenth-seed SCC girls (1-20) head on the road to face Altoona-Midway (3-18) Tuesday. If they advance, they’ll play two-seed Marais Des Cygnes Valley (18-4) on the road March 2.

Officials with KSHSAA will release the Iola, Humboldt and Yates Center boys and girls brackets Saturday.
