The Yates Center Wildcats hope to bounce back after falling to the Erie Red Devils 49-37 in Friday’s Three Rivers League showdown.
After ending the first quarter with a 6-5 lead, the Red Devils took control from there, holding the Wildcats to just 6 points in the second quarter to take a 19-12 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats rallied to tie by the end of the third quarter 41-41, but an 18-6 fourth quarter ultimately decided the contest and dropped Yates Center’s record to 3-5 overall as they continue playing for their first TRL victory.
They hosted St. Paul Tuesday, but the final score was not available at press time.

In the girls’ action, Yates Center out-dueled the Erie Red Devils 50-35 in the opening varsity contest Friday with a 50-35 victory. With the win, the YC Wildcats improved to 1-2 in the Three Rivers League and 3-5 overall.
SCC girls looking
for first win
Despite a dramatic improvement from their 55-9 loss to St. Paul before the Christmas break, the Southern Coffey County girls basketball team continues battling for a win.
Their latest loss came Friday, 37-21, to Altoona Midway.
Senior Hailey Honn had a team-leading 9 points, followed by freshman Brooke Marlow with 8 points. Sophomore Alexis Reidinger and junior Layla Decker tied for third with a bucket each.
Altoona-Midway pulls away late
The Southern Coffey County Titans boys basketball team also remains winless following a late rally by Altoona-Midway Friday.
Following an 11-7 run to open the first quarter, the Altoona-Midway Jets held SCC to single digits each quarter through the fourth for the 42-37 victory.
With the loss, the Titans fall to 0-9 overall and winless in the Three Rivers League at 0-5. They hope to put one in the win column Monday and Tuesday, on the road against Central Heights and at home against Uniontown respectively. The final scores for those contests were not available at press time.
Cubs fall to Colgan
The Humboldt Cubs look for a turnaround as they jump back into Tri-Valley League action Tuesday after a 76-44 mauling by the St. Mary’s-Colgan Panthers Friday in Pittsburg.
