LE ROY — Visiting Burlingame High’s size and speed were too much for Southern Coffey County High to handle.
And that’s not counting some early miscues, Titan head coach John Chanley said, which led to a 64-6 trouncing at the hands of Burlingame.
The defeat drops Southern Coffey County to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Kansas Eight-Man I, District 3 play.
“We had a couple of early mistakes which put us in a hole, and they just buried us,” Chanley said. “They’re all seniors, and they’re big and fast.”
The Bearcats raced to a 20-0 lead after one period before putting the game away with a 44-6 run that spanned the second quarter. The game ended at the half, via Kansas’ eight-man mercy rule. Burlingame racked up 289 yards rushing and did not punt in the contest.
Southern Coffey County’s only score came midway through the second quarter on a 31-yard touchdown  pass from Colin Kraft to Aaron Ludolph.
Ludolph pulled in four receptions for 85 yards. Kraft completed 8 of 21 passes for 100 yards, the touchdown and an interception. Travis Bryan rushed three times for a team-high 24 yards.  Ludolph led the Titans with seven tackles, followed by Turner Anderson and Bryan with six stops apiece, Wes Callahan with five and Dylan Wonser with four.
The Titans resume play next Friday at home against Madison
