Area bowlers were recognized Saturday for their work as part of a nationwide Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) campaign at Iola’s Country Lanes. Through BVL, funds provide recreational and therapeutic programs and services to Veterans Affairs hospitals, state homes and other centers for retired military personnel. Bowlers raised $256.50 for their participation in a competition in November. The top male and female bowler in each league was given a pin. The top scorers locally were, front from left, Isabella Richards (with a series of 406 in the bantam/prep division-girl), Briley Prather (200 in the bumper bowler group) and Dale Fagg (413 in bantam/prep-boy); and second from left, Matthew Lea (620 in junior/major-boy), Morgan Lea (652 in junior/major-girl), Lyle Yoder (720 adult-male) and Bev Fuhrman (686 in adult-female). Nationwide, $11,631.77 was raised for BVL in 2013.
