Bulldogs hand Lancers a loss

MADISON — Chalk it up to a learning experience and move forward is what Crest High’s Lancers look to do after a 46-0 loss Friday night.
It was the first loss in four games of the 2010 season for the Lancers. Madison High’s Bulldogs powered  to a 40-0 halftime lead.
With a touchdown by the Bulldogs with 4:40 left in the third quarter, the eight-man  contest ended.
“We didn’t assert ourselves like we should on defense. We played back on our heels,” said Brent Smith, Lancer head coach.
“We did not play like we have the first three weeks of the season.”
Kyle Hammond rushed for 11 yards on three carries and was 3 of 9  passing for 31 yards.
Jordan Morton carried the ball six times for six yards. Dakota Ramsey had seven yards on three carries.
Morton caught two passes for 19 yards. Dexter Wiley made a 12-yard catch.
“To be the best, you have to play the best and this will help us get back after it this week going into district play,” Smith said.
The 3-1 Lancers host the 2-2 Chetopa High Hornets in Kansas Eight-Man I, District 2 play next Friday. It is homecoming for CHS.
Defensively at Madison, Luke Decker was credited with 10 tackles. Wiley and Ramsey had seven tackles each. Hammond had six and Jayden Bowen had five stops.
