BURLINGTON — Humboldt High’s baseball team lost two games to Burlington in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
“Burlington is an excellent team and we knew we would have to play really well to beat them,” coach Mike Miller said. “Our pitchers did a very good job of keeping us in both games, we just made too many mistakes behind them to beat a quality team. We had some really good at bats and had opportunities to score more runs in both games, we just didn’t come through with runners in scoring position when we really needed it.”
In game one, the Cubs lost 10-5.
Zach Vanatta and Tanner Orth each had two hits including a double. Vanatta had two RBIs and Orth had one. Devin Davidson had two singles and two runs scored. Kason Siemens had a single and an RBI. Tyler Korte, Corey Whitcomb and Jake Haviland each had a single.
Kason Siemens started the game, pitching four innings. He gave up five hits, seven runs (three earned), three walks and struck out one. Rayce Hoepker pitched two innings. “He gave us four hits, three runs (two earned) and struck out one,” Miller said.
In game two, the Cubs lost 6-2. Humboldt had a 2-0 lead after two innings, but Burlington tied the game in the third inning. The Wildcats scored four runs in the sixth inning to get the win.
