HUMBOLDT — Humboldt secured two big 10-0 wins on Tuesday night against Eureka at home. In game two, Jake Haviland threw a no-hitter. HUMBOLDT’S JV baseball team played in a wood bat tournament at Labette County High School on Saturday.
“It was great to get in the win column after dropping two games last week,” said coach Mike Miller. “Kason pitched game one and had to battle to get out of a couple of jams. He was able to make some big pitches when he really needed them to prevent them from scoring.”
Siemens made it through all five innings, throwing eight strikeouts. He gave up three walks and three hits.
Haviland led the team with his bat in game one. He had two singles, a double and two RBIs. Zach Vanatta hat two singles, a double and an RBI. Rhett Smith had a double and two RBIs. Siemens had two singles and an RBI. Tanner Orth and Tyler Korte each had a single and an RBI. Corey Whitcomb had an RBI and Rayce Hoepker had two singles.
In game two, Haviland dominated on the mound.
“Jake has been steadily improving with every outing and tonight he was dominant throwing a no-hitter,” Miller said. “He had amazing stuff tonight and really attacked the strike zone.”
Haviland faced 19 batters and had 13 strikeouts in his no-hitter.
Batting statistics weren’t available for game two.
Humboldt (4-2) hosts Yates Center on Thursday.
In game one, the team beat Coffeyville 4-2.
Evan Gean started the game and gave up two runs in the first, but bounced back for a strong outing. He pitched five innings, gave up two hits and had five strikeouts.
Hesston Murrow was 2-for-2 with a run scored. Josh Vanatta, Griffin Voorhies and Wyatt Seufert each had a hit and run scored.
In game two, the team lost to Fort Scott 2-1.
Daylon Splane pitched five innings, gave up four hits and two walks. He had six strikeouts. Coach Milller said that Fort Scott’s pitcher kept the team off balance.
Jackson Wilder had a hit. Wyatt Seufert walked and had a run scored. Gean walked.
