Area players accounted for most of the All-Three Rivers League unanimous selections.
Marmaton Valley senior pitcher Tyler Lord, Crest senior pitcher Drake Weir and MVHS senior infielder Garrett Morrison received All-Three Rivers League unanimous selections while four other area players received All-TRL first team and second team honors.
Coming off leading their team to its first state tournament appearance in school history, Lord and Morrison played a variety of roles for the Wildcats. Lord was MVHS’ ace after he passed the 150 strikeout and the 100-hit milestone earlier this year. He went 8-2 on the season, with a 1.26 ERA, striking out 67 batters over 44 innings. He also hit at a lofty .443 clip with 39 runs scored and 24 RBIs.
Morrison also provided a reliable arm on the mound, going 3-1 with a 5.60 ERA, striking out 25 over 20 innings. In the batter’s box he hit at a jaw-dropping .595 clip, with 38 RBIs, 33 runs, eight triples and 10 doubles.
Jensen Barker and Weir also secured first-team selections.
Barker provided reliablility and power hitting to the lineup, often batting cleanup.
Barker also provided solid defense behind the plate and was a constant home run threat in the batter’s box. He hit .476 with 30 RBIs, and 23 runs scored. He smacked three home runs on the season. On the mound, Barker went 1-1 with a 5.14 ERA, striking out 27 over 23 innings.
Weir served as the Lancers’ ace, going 3-1 with a 2.4 ERA, striking out 44 over 23 innings. His plate prowess brought a .500 batting average, with 31 RBIs, 31 runs scored on 26 hits and four home runs.
Yates Center junior pitcher Evan McVey was also a first-team selection. McVey was the Wildcats’ ace and one of their most reliable hitters.
With one season left in a program that more than doubled their wins last year, the Wildcats could be a player for a TRL title next season if McVey and company continue improving. He hit .538 on the season. His other stats were not immediately available.
Marmaton Valley lefty Todd Stevenson received All-TRL honorable mention thanks to his talented bat and skills in the outfield. He hit .493 with 24 RBIs and 29 runs.
Crest senior second baseman Henry White’s reliable glove on the infield and a hitting threat in the batter’s box, made him a lock for a TRL honorable mention. He hit .379 with 20 stolen bases, 26 runs, and seven RBIs.
