The Marmaton Valley Wildcats are above .500 for the first time this season after crushing the Erie Red Devils 21-0 and 19-3 Monday night.
Monday’s Three Rivers League doubleheader was not even close as the Wildcats closed both contests before the fourth inning in a pair of mercy-rule victories to improve their record to 4-2 both overall and in the TRL.
Marmaton Valley set the tone early with 10 runs in the opening frame, then five runs in the second inning and six runs in the third.
Senior first baseman Todd Stevenson tied senior shortstop Garrett Morrison with four RBIs each while perfect in 4 of 4 at-bats. Sophomore pitcher Thomas Allee and freshman catcher Layne Lord tied for second in RBIs with two each.
Allee picked up the win in the opener, throwing a three-inning shutout while striking out more than half of the batters he faced with six Ks.
The 19-3 score in the finale was a bit tighter.
MVHS Senior outfielder Tyler Lord had a team-leading three RBIs, followed by senior first baseman Todd Stevenson and senior catcher Garrett Morrison with two each.
Tyler Lord was also perfect in the batter’s box hitting 4 of 4. Morrison also was spot on hitting 3 of 3.
Freshman pitcher Lane Lord picked up the win in the finale. He tallied six strikeouts over two and 2/3 innings on the mound while junior Andi Carrr came in for the final out as closer.
